First Time Eye Test

Your eyes are in good hands here at Wills Street Eyecare. Our experienced team of optometrists are passionate about eye health, and our dispensing team take pride in helping you look and feel your best.  You do not need a referral to attend an optometrist.

Please allow 40 minutes with the optometrist for your first examination, so we have time to fully understand and meet your needs.

What happens during the test?

  • Your vision and focus will be measured, in order to provide an accurate glasses prescription
  • You will receive a comprehensive health assessment to check for eye diseases such as cataract, macular degeneration and glaucoma
  • Digital images of the front and back of your eyes will be recorded as a baseline reference for future comparison

We promise not to confuse you with jargon. Your results will be explained in clear and concise language, and we will prescribe glasses or contact lenses if necessary. You may also be recommended eye exercises or eye drops, or referral to an ophthalmologist if further treatment is indicated.

At the end of the consultation we’ll let you know when your next check-up is due. It's about making things as simple and straightforward as possible.

Please note: Some eye examinations require the use of eyedrops to dilate the pupils, which may result in temporary blurry vision and light sensitivity. We advise against driving immediately after these examinations, and recommend the use of sunglasses and a hat for glare protection.
