This year, we are bidding farewell to two of our longest serving team members, Natalie and Kerry. Natalie and her family are moving to Queensland, and Kerry is looking forward to retirement! We are so happy for them both as they move on to their next adventures, but they do leave very big, empty shoes here at the practice just waiting to be filled.
So could you be our next team member?
We are an optometry practice, focusing very much on optimising our patient's eye health and vision. We run a full book of appointments every day and these often result in the sale of spectacles, sunglasses, or contact lenses.
An 'Optical Assistant' is a team member who helps with every step of the patient journey and the administrative operations behind it. A unique blend of sales, administration and healthcare. That means answering phones and making appointments, greeting patients as they arrive for appointments, and helping them afterwards with choosing frames or lenses, or arranging further care.
You will also learn to adjust and repair spectacle frames, order spectacles, contact lenses and other products from our suppliers, and be involved in the ongoing community engagement of our practice.
An 'Optical Dispenser' is a qualified dispenser of optical goods, who has completed a Certificate IV in Optical Dispensing and becomes an expert in all of these processes. We offer this development path to all of our permanent team members, so that we have as much knowledge on the floor as possible! In the meantime, there are lots of learning opportunities in-house, online and at face-to-face workshops.
If you are interested in a role with us, consider your people skills as the main priority - do you like customer service and are you able to stay cheerful and engaged all day?
Can you use computer software with ease and pick up new skills quickly? There is a lot of learning in optics - sometimes it's a bit like a new language - no two days are ever the same and this keeps things very interesting.
Do you like fashion? Possibly the most fun you will every have in sales is helping our patients choose their spectacle frames and sunglasses. It's more technical than just the look of the frame and a great outcome gets everyone excited.
Do you like working in a small team? We work so closely with each other that your 'work family' really matters. We want to support you in your learning, and as a bonus we do great morning teas...
Applications for our optical assistant roles are open now! We need a full timer and a part timer, so take your pick. No optical experience is required, but is of course very welcome. Pay rates will reflect appropriate sales, administration, or optical experience (we work on the Retail Award).
